When Vaginas Attack!
We saw it in Species where a sleekly gorgeous alien loped about, mostly naked, on a mission to seduce and destroy, but a new movie, Teeth has taken the concept to a new low. You can catch the trailer here.It’s about a high school student who discovers she has a set of teeth embedded in her lady bits, but while she initially recoils with revulsion and terror at the “something inside of her”, the trailer implies she quickly comes to terms with it after she’s sexually assaulted and goes on the rampage with her vampiric vajayjay.
It puts a twist on the rape revenge genre, like the classic I Spit On Your Grave or, more recently, Hard Candy (which I’d describe as a psychological thriller, but my guy friends assure me is pure horror). It looks stupid, but is also kinda fun in a B-grade way and maybe a tad subversive. I’ll probably go see it. It made Sundance after all.
It’s not surprising that someone came up with this. What’s surprising is that it took them so long. It’s obvious! Every man’s worst fear come to life! Teeth is probably the most refreshingly honest horror flick ever. ‘Cos let’s face it. Women are scary. And sexually liberated women are freaking terrifying.
And that’s what bothers me.
